    Why are OPzS batteries common in substations?
    Because a 15 to 20 year design life matches substation asset cycles, cell condition can be inspected visually, and the ventilated room these installations already have removes the main objection to a flooded type.
    What autonomy is required for substation DC?
    Commonly 5 to 10 hours of standing load with the tripping and closing duty cycle applied at the end of that period, since the battery must still deliver a high current pulse when it is most discharged.
    Where does grid storage make sense?
    Where it defers a network reinforcement, firms a renewable plant against curtailment, or provides fast response services the market pays for. Each case is assessed against the tariff and connection terms before any equipment is proposed.
