    How large a home battery is needed?
    Most households land between 5 and 15 kWh. Sizing follows evening consumption if the aim is self consumption, or the essential circuits and the expected outage length if the aim is backup.
    Will solar alone keep the lights on during an outage?
    No. A standard grid tied inverter disconnects when the grid fails, for safety. Backup during an outage requires a hybrid inverter with a battery and a defined backup circuit.
    Portable power station or fixed installation?
    A portable unit is right for a router, lighting, laptops, and a fridge for a few hours, with no installation. A fixed system is needed for whole home circuits, heating loads, and automatic changeover.
