Telecom core site, DC plant refit

A mobile core site cannot be taken down for a battery replacement. The work had to happen around live traffic, with autonomy maintained at every step.

    Short answer

Ageing DC plant replaced on a live core site without a single loss of autonomy on the 48 V bus.

    At a glance

    Location: Kosova.

Sector: TelecomDuty: 48 V DC standbyRegime: Live site, staged cutoverService: Maintenance contract

    The brief

Replace end-of-life rectifier shelves and battery strings on a core site carrying live subscriber traffic. No planned outage was available and the DC bus had to stay within its design autonomy throughout.

    What we delivered

A staged cutover plan, temporary parallel supply, and phased string replacement so the site never dropped below its minimum reserve.

    • Rectifier shelf replacement with load transferred module by module
    • New standby strings sized to the measured site load, not the nameplate
    • Discharge test and commissioning report before handover
    • Old batteries removed under a documented recycling chain

    Outcome

The site returned to full documented autonomy with a measured baseline for every string, and moved onto a scheduled maintenance contract with annual impedance testing.
